A patio cover is usually a roofing system that is attached to the house on one side than has two posts on the other side that support it. Usually the rest of the patio is left open. Sometimes these covers will have removable “walls”, typically mesh material screens, that can be pulled back or drawn close. They are typically made out of aluminum or tin.

Retractable types are usually made out of heavy duty canvas. Standard styles are usually attached to the house on one side and dependent on two posts in the front for support. A cover may also be fashioned from glass usually the glass is smoked or dark to provide UV protection.

There will be a list of companies that pop up that can assist with the purchase and installation options. There are also companies that sell kits for these covers for you to assemble. These do it yourself kits save the expense of having them installed, and they comec complete with everything that is needed to construct a quality cover for your patio.

These covers are an excellent way to extend the use of a patio through the seasons. It will keep the patio cooler in the heat of the summer and will allow use of the patio during the rainy days of spring. A cover also makes the patio feel more like a room in the house by providing a sheltered space. Finding a patio cover that suits the needs of the home owner should be pretty easy to accomplish.
